Even though their insurance policy covered the replacement of these ovens, a substantial loss of business still loomed. Lead times for delivery in excess of 18 months meant that customers would continue to face unacceptable delays.

Since the manufacturer was covered on a “new for old” basis, the insurer faced a bill of £6million to replace assets worth less than £250,000. Through our effective interpretation of the policy and our strategic approach, CCI was able to negotiate an alternative plan, which – in addition to being more cost effective for the insurer – would return the manufacturer to full production considerably earlier.

Rather than replacing the assets “like for like”, CCI instead suggested purchasing 2 much larger ovens to meet the manufacturer’s capacity needs and using the savings to invest in modernising the production line.
